Shoutcast Webradio Now Available On Television On The BLOBbox
(14 set 2009) -
TVBLOB, a next generation OTT TV software and service development company, today
announced that SHOUTcast WebRadio has been successfully integrated in the
BLOBbox, a hybrid set-top box and TV-centric development platform that blend
traditional TV with Internet services. Using the free BLOBbox SDK available on
the BLOBforge, SHOUTcast Radio is another example of an existing third-party
service originally built for PC, easily porting to the BLOBbox ecosystem and
reaching the TV.
The SHOUTcast Radio Directory offers more than 30,000+ Internet Radio stations
spanning 23 genres and over 300 sub-genres from third-party broadcasters around
the world. From Pop to Rock, Bollywood to Jamaican, users can search by genre,
subgenre, popularity, station, and artist and BLOBbox users can save their
favorites at any time for easy access later on the television.
“We are creating a television environment where anyone can add new Web-based
applications without intermediation or revenue sharing,” said Fabrizio
Caffarelli, CEO of TVBLOB. “We’re very happy that the world of SHOUTcast Radio
is joining the BLOBbox ecosystem and hope that this addition encourages others
to join in and potentially realize the ‘killer app’ for TV.”
First of its kind, the “BLOBbox” is an over-the-top (OTT) hybrid set-top box for
SD and HDTV that offers the functionalities of a comprehensive media center in
an open application development environment where any third-party can
independently build, monetize and manage Web-based services on TV. The Box
itself allows users to watch and record digital terrestrial television (HD PVR,
built-in HDD), download podcasts and torrents from all over the world using a
built-in BitTorrent engine, as well as browse Internet services that continually
expand due to this open community approach. The BLOBforge
(http://www.blobforge.com) provides the resources and support needed for
development.
SHOUTcast Radio will be publically released by the end of the month on the
BLOBbox, which is now available for purchase. Visit http://www.tvblobbox.com.
