TVBLOB announces the integration of reeplay.it social video bookmarking service with the BLOBbox

(31 mar 2009) - TVBLOB announces that reeplay.it has successfully integrated its social video bookmarking service with the BLOBbox, a hybrid set-top box for analog and HD televisions. Using a BLOBbox and the reeplay.it service, new and existing users can spontaneously bookmark "free-to-web" video content anywhere online, view it on big screen TVs, and even share links with family and friends.

In just two clicks, reeplay.it makes video from the web playable on an iPod, iPhone, portable media player, videogame console, mobile phone, or set-top box. Users don't need to worry about encoding, resolution differences, or bit rates because reeplay.it automatically displays the highest quality video possible on the receiving device.
“With reeplay.it on the BLOBbox, you can have a seamless experience when accessing traditional as well as web TV content. No one restricts your content or viewing options; you are in full control of what, when and where to watch whatever interests you,” says Stefano Quintarelli of reeplay.it.

Besides being an HD PVR and free Digital Terrestrial TV receiver, the versatile BLOBbox blends traditional broadcast TV with new Web TV possibilities including the ability to browse sites like YouTube, Picasa, and Wikipedia, check Gmail, watch online television, subscribe to audio and video podcasts through services like Miro, search for and download video using BitTorrent to watch in 1080p HD, and copy or stream media files from a home PC or local network.

“The Web is the success that it is because it’s open and anyone can participate; we’ve applied those principles to TV,” says TVBLOB CEO Fabrizio Caffarelli. “Essentially, anyone can publish new services directly to television and invent a killer app for TV.” To that end TVBLOB has released BLOBkit, a free SDK that enables developers to invent new services for TV using open web technologies such as HTML, AJAX, and Java. BLOBkit is available from BLOBforge [http://www.blobforge.com], an open source TV Development Community.

The BLOBbox is available for purchase now from TecnologieCreative [http://www.tecnologiecreative.it] in Italy or directly from the BLOBbox [http://www.tvblobbox.com] website. It requires a standard television with analog or HDMI input and a broadband connection. TVBLOB is supporting the efforts of Telsey [http://www.telsey.it], its first manufacturing partner, to find additional distribution and retail partners for the Telsey BLOBbox and welcomes inquiries.
